Did anyone read his book "The God Delusion"?

The beginning of the book is quite disturbing....he counts all wars and infelicities caused by religions

That guy condemns religions and thinks the world would be a better place without it

Dawkins and Anne.. i can see them together

i sense angst in his lunacy and tirades.

The same old "Source of Evil" blah blah blah.

He makes you swallow HIS definition of what evil is at the onset.

I think they named some award after him or something..

I've read only the first chapter since i have no time for anything but my studies; but if you don't want to read his book you can see a documentary he's made, extremely interesting.

The Dawkins Delusion: There is no God (http://hamzatzortzis.blogspot.com/2008/01/my-next-event-17th-jan-2008.html)
An intellectually stimulating presentation by Hamza Tzortzis

“God almost certainly does not exist.”
Richard Dawkins from his international best seller ‘The God Delusion’

There are no atheists in foxholes - and fewer and fewer everywhere else. Offering a penetrating analysis Hamza Tzortzis challenges popular assumptions that the world is growing more secular. Learn why atheism is helpless in providing rational explanations for the origins of the universe as well as the essential intellectual guidance for coping with the complexities of modern life.

^ Yes and alongside that he is a pillock... Look its fine that he has written whole loads of rubbish.. but when he tries to tell me not to raise my children religiously.. that pisses me off and he is trying to impose his own ideology on every one... isnt that what you call an extremist.. or you have a different explanation for extremist? and tries to impose his scientific BELIEF on me...

ARE YOU FRICKIN KIDDING ME?

He is saying that we don't identify children as liberal, or conservative or labor party children because they can't decide about those things yet so why should we call children as muslim or jew or christian and enforce our beliefs on them. If you believe in god and jesus don't teach it to a naive child let him/her decide when they grow up. Is that so bad?????
And if you say this is extremism, then i guess this is the only way to wake people up.

^ his argument is stupid.. its not as if a person can change his beliefs once he grows.. up. like yourself and 3.14.. you were probably at some time of your life so called "muslims"..
As yourself said.. child is naive.. and that is why they need to be taught.. what is right and what is wrong..

and about waking ppl up.. yes has definitely woken up ppl.. interest in Religions at its max.. and mashAllah Islam is spreading ever faster..

+ his book Delusion of God is also known as Atiestic Bible :D , ironic isnt it?

I really don't understand the bold part, but what do you know about right or wrong? He's not saying don't teach them anything, just don't fill their heads with religous ideas from such an early age; there are other ways of showing them not steel or commit crime you know. He has created a debate and that to me is waking people up.

Forcing beliefs upon children or generally upon someone is not allowed

But teaching children about islam is not forcing. So when they grow up its their own decision whether being a muslim or not.

Word up!

As for me, Im going to start a huge campaign protesting against natural disasters. Especially volcanic erruptions and avalanches, the most devious yet deadly.

I believe tsunamis are overrated and just a conspiracy to cover up the damage done by real natural disasters, like tornados.

When I hit Washington DC in June, I plan to gather my 6 friends together to protest in front of the White House.

I read it, saw it on a library shelf and before I knew it, I had read it. Took me 2 hours (I skipped things I had read before)

Bad book, it is meant to be offensive. It also uses rhetoric that appeals to young atheists, much like rhetoric used by evangelical christians and the whole Harun Yahya buisness.

If you want a good source to learn about Atheism, and Rational Humanism read Russel.

Dawkins is just really witty.

As a fan of Dawkins you have to know that..

nimrooo
01-25-2008, 12:26 PM
First of all I don't think you know the meaning of atheism,
and i can give you a million quotes that he is an atheist:

"Dawkins is an ardent and outspoken atheist, an Honorary Associate of the National Secular Society,[34] a vice-president of the British Humanist Association and a Distinguished Supporter of the Humanist Society of Scotland. ..."

"nearest thing to a professional atheist we have had since Bertrand Russell"[13] and compared to Ernst Haeckel.[14]"

This discussion is so pointless, it's like saying khomeini was not muslim.

Yalda
01-25-2008, 12:38 PM
An atheist is someone who neither believes in any monotheistic/polytheistic religion nor in any higher power

As i said to you HE SAID THAT IN AN INTERVIEW

Should i copy it from the magazine and post it here for you?

Yalda did you mean he is an atheist?

I don't like his because his writing isn't scholastic it's rhetorical. Rhetoric is one thing Atheism should not advocate itself with, since rhetoric creates mobs not rational individuals.

Yalda jan you might be taking what he said out of context.

He was probably trying to explain that he is not an "Atheist" (someone who believes there is no god), and that he is an Agnostic (Someone who doesn't guess either way), but for the general public the correct impression would be to say he is an Atheist rather than to say he is agnostic.

Is that you in the avatar?

That might be possible..Then he should call himself an Agnostic

Its like when i say im a muslim but i dont agree with this and that..Either you are or you are not.Period.

Atheist and Agnostic mean the same thing.

Being an Atheist to something meants you don't think it exists. You can't prove that it doesn't but you are sure it doesn't.

For example you are an Atheist towards Brahman. You can't prove it but you are quite sure Brahman doesn't exist. Strictly speaking because you can't prove it, you are an agnostic to it.

Now if you were to say you are agnostic towards Brahman, the common person will think you think it's 50/50 chance that Brahman exists. So you say you are an atheist.

It's a hard concept to explain, I suggest reading an Essay called "Am I an Agnostic or an Atheist"-By Russel.
