Rose Cake
http://i42.tinypic.com/2dr800y.jpg
It's called 'rose cake' because those layers look a bit like tight petals.
Ingredients - dough:
125 g quark
300 g flour
5 tbsp milk
1 egg
4 tbsp sunflower oil
1 tbsp rose water
4 tbsp powdered sugar
1 packet vanilla sugar
Pinch of salt
2 tbsp baking powder
mix up all ingredients and knead it till you have a smooth dough
roll out the dough to a long rectangle about 30x50cm

ingredients - filling
75 g quark
grated lemon peel
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
sliced Almonds
Raisins
chopped pistachios
mix quark, grated lemon peel and powdered sugar and spread it on the dough

sprinkle the spread dough with almonds, raisins and chopped pistachios and roll it up

(I replaced the pistachios with walnuts)
http://i43.tinypic.com/14o4pig.jpg
cut the dough roll in slices
http://i40.tinypic.com/2hpo9cm.jpg
lay the slices side by side in a baking dish, brush it with a whisked egg yolk and sprinkle with almonds
http://i42.tinypic.com/2rylzx4.jpg
bake it at 190°C heat for about 35-40 minutes

right after you took it out of the oven spread it with cooled syrup (made of 1:1 sugar-water and a bit lemon juice) otherwise the cake is going to be too dry

Finally, decorate it with roses (optional)

a bit like Cinnamon rolls ... I mean the rolling the dough and cutting part ... ingredients differ. But overall, looks good. Will try it sometime.

Sorry, forgot to write that. You brush the cake with whisked egg yolk so it get's that colour in the oven.

I googeled a bit and found out that Curd cheese and Cottage Cheese should be the same as the german 'quark'-
For the dough you can substitue low-fat cream cheese or sour cream mixed with a bit milk for quark
and for the filling it's also possible to use mascarpone
The afghan alternative would be Mast'e Chakka (drained yoghurt) - I personally would prefer this for both dough and filling.

^Erm ... I was referring to the dough.
Is quark a 'must' for the dough? Or can I substitute cream cheese or sour cream?

Both should work as substitution. Try it and tell me how it goes.
PS: edited my last Post.

Maybe dates or any other dried sweet fruit?
Or you just add another nut.....e.g.Hazel-, Macadamia-, Brazil- or Pecan nuts and because they would make the cake dry and not that sweet, you can make more syrup and dip the whole cake in it after it got baked (Don't forget the syrup has to be cooled but the cake must be hot)
