Lectures

Lectures and narration of Shahnama (http://ketabkhaneyegooya.blogspot.com/2007/10/blog-post_31.html) by Muhammad Ja'far Mahjoob
(you can download much better quality of these talks here (http://hamidrezahoseini.blogspot.com/2009/03/blog-post_22.html), if you're able to find where the mp3 files are located). Also, another series of talks on Rostam o Sohrab (http://hamidrezahoseini.blogspot.com/2009/01/blog-post_10.html).

Narration

Entire narration of Shahnama (http://www.yasinmedia.com/fa/islamic-songs/367-shahnameh-mp3.html) is available in mp3

Translation

An English (abridged) translation of Shahnama (http://persian.packhum.org/persian/pf?auth=68&work=001)
(btw, that website contains an incredible amount of Persian literature in translation that have gone out of copyright... it deserves exploration).

Paintings

Princeton Shahnama Project (http://www.princeton.edu/~shahnama/)
High resolution illustrations from ancient Shahnama manuscripts =o)

Enjoy!

LOL... women.... so hard to please.

Out of copyright stuff is awesome. You can make your own books out of it.
Also it means they are old... from the days when scholarship meant something, none of this Coleman Barks stuff.

I really want to say this topic already exists (twice) but I fear the sarcastic backlash that will entail. (+1 memory)

So I won't say it, I'll just say I really wanted to say it but I have not said it.

If Shahnama (or Mathnawi) is not read in proper way, then it really isn't much fun...
=

Out of Shahnamah, my most favourite couplet is:

هر انکس که بد را پسندیده است
نادانم ز نیکی چی بد دیده است

Of course there are many great ones, but I think this tops the whole lot.
