As-Salamu `alaykum
The website mentioned by Shareef is not only anti-Islamic, but also anti-Arab. It is full of lies and distortions, an attempt at deceiving by nationalists who cannot stand that their country is a Muslim country and that their countrymen are following the religion of the Arabian Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). Tainted information from various sources is put together in a series of articles attempting to attack the character of our beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). One such article makes the absurd assertion that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) married the Lady Khadija (Allah be well pleased with her) because she was rich and so that he wouldn’t have to work. What absurdity! The Godforsaken fools do not point out that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) would even mend his own clothes and take care of other household chores. The Godforsaken fools do not point out that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) went for days without food even when he was the ruler of all of Arabia. But of course it is not in the interest of liars to make the truth known.
The Sources
William Muir (1819-1905) is the infamous anti-Islamic Orientalist who was also a Christian missionary. His campaign against the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and Islam is no secret. Today he is a favorite source for Christian missionaries and other anti-Islamic groups who quote his works in their books and internet articles.
Imam Abu Ja`far al-Tabari (d. 310 AH) (Allah be well pleased with him) in the introduction to his Tarikh cleary points out that in his work he mentions reports as they have been transmitted to him. “Hence, if I mention in this book a report about some men of the past, which the reader of listener finds objectionable or worthy of censure because he can see no aspect of truth nor any factual substance therein, let him know that this is not to be attributed to us but to those who transmitted it to us and we have merely passed this on as it has been passed on to us.” (Tarikh al-Tabari) Thus his method was to cite all that was transmitted to him, the authentic and the inauthentic.
The Facts
One of the greatest Companions of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) was Sayyidina Salman al-Farisi (the Persian – Allah be well pleased with him). The Prophet (Allah bless him and give peace) said of him that he is of the people of his house (Ahl al-Bayt): “Salmanu minna Ahl al-Bayt.”
Many of the greatest scholars and saints of Islam were Persian. Islam has thrived in the lands of the Persian Empire for over 1400 years. Till this day millions of Iranians venerate as saints the very people who are being accused here, among them Sayyidina Husayn (Allah be well pleased with him). Christian missionaries, nationalistic, bitter “Persians,” and other Islamophobes would have us believe that all of Persia was fooled into loving and revering its enemies!
These claims put forth against Sayyidina Hasan and Sayyidina Husayn (Allah be well pleased with him) are lies adduced by Christian missionaries, used by Islamophobes on their websites, and now cited here as third-hand quotes by members on the forum.
As for the claims about the concept of mawla made by those who do not even speak a word of Arabic, Shaykh Gibril Haddad cites “the narration adduced by Ibn al-Salah in his Muqaddima on the Hadith sciences from `Ata' that the latter was asked by the Caliph Hisham ibn `Abd al-Malik in al-Rusafa:
- "O `Ata'! Do you know anything about the foremost Ulema in the world?"
- "Yes, Commander of the Believers."
- "Who is the Faqih of Ahl al-Madina?"
- "Nafi` the Mawla of Ibn `Umar [most likely a Persian according to al-Dhahabi]."
- "Was he a Mawla or an Arab?"
- "A Mawla."
- "Then who is the Faqih of Ahl Makka?"
- "`Ata' ibn Abi Rabah."
- "Was he a Mawla or an Arab?"
- "No! A Mawla."
- "Then who is the Faqih of Ahl al-Yaman?"
- "Tawus ibn Kaysan."
- "Was he a Mawla or an Arab?"
- "No! A Mawla."
- "Then who is the Faqih of Ahl al-Yamama?"
- "Yahya ibn Abi Kathir."
- "Was he a Mawla or an Arab?"
- "No! A Mawla."
- "Then who is the Faqih of Ahl al-Sham?"
- "Makhul."
- "Was he a Mawla or an Arab?"
- "No! A Mawla."
- "Then who is the Faqih of Ahl al-Jazira?"
- "Maymun ibn Mihran."
- "Was he a Mawla or an Arab?"
- "No! A Mawla."
- "Then who is the Faqih of Ahl Khurasan?"
- "Al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim."
- "Was he a Mawla or an Arab?"
- "No! A Mawla."
- "Then who is the Faqih of Ahl al-Basra?"
- "Al-Hasan and Ibn Sirin."
- "Were they Mawlas or Arabs?"
- "No! Mawlas."
- "Then who is the Faqih of Ahl al-Kufa?"
- "Ibrahim al-Nakha`i."
- "Was he a Mawla or an Arab?"
- "An Arab!"
Hearing which, Hisham said:
- "Had you not said an Arab I think I would have expired on the spot." [Sh. Gibril Haddad, “Are Arabs Superior?”]
And so the mawali, whom the Arabs supposedly oppressed, are recognized amongst the foremost authorities of the religion, relied upon by the entire Umma, Arab and non-Arab alike.
We should be reject taking knowledge from the enemies of Islam. Our reliance for knowledge should be upon those who have mastered knowledge, the scholars of Islam.
Please do forgive me for any harm I have caused.
Allah and His Messenger know best.
